There are a number of ways; it depends on what software you currently
have, how much you're willing to pay, and how professional you want it

The first part is making the web pages. You can make your web pages with
anything from Microsoft Word on one end to Macromedia Dreamweaver on the
other. In between, you can use free software such as Netscape (the
latest version of Netscape, 7.x, has a very nice web page editor built
in), or shareware software such as PageSpinner (look on
versiontracker.com for either of these and more).

After you have your web pages, you need a place to put it. If you have a
full-time net connection that allows you to run a server, it could be as
simple as putting your web pages in your "Sites" folder (on Mac OS X)
and clicking the right button in the "Sharing" system preference.

Otherwise, you need to find a hosting provider, and you'll have to
follow their instructions for uploading. Some programs (such as Netscape
or Dreamweaver) can handle the uploading for you, if you give it the
right information (which your hosting provider will need to provide).

But take it a step at a time: work on the web pages, then work on
publishing them.

Jerry

That'll be a tough one. I believe you want a WYSIWYG application to
build web pages. Try Netscape for an example of one. I used to use it.
I actually prefer working with HTML directly, though. It's really not
that difficult for simple stuff.

The same way you connect to the internet without a computer.

Okay, now that 'enough', the village idiot, has given you his two
cents, I'll tell you of a way you can do it.

You should know at least a little about HTML in order to build and
publish a web page. I recommend "HTML For Idiots", an excellent
resource for beginners. HTML really isn't hard, you should learn it if
you wish to publish a web site. Trust me on this, I'm lousy at
programming and I'm not too ad at coding HTML.

Then, go to a place like GeoCities (which now belongs to Yahoo!), sign
up for some free web space. You can use their tools to build and
publish, or you can build with Mozilla 1.4, or Netscape 7.02 (I
recommend Mozilla), and publish using GeoCities' tools. It's easy,
just go there and give it a whirl.

P.S. There is one thing people like 'enough' can teach us:
Contraception is a good thing! In his case, it should have been a law.

I did not realize that the "village moron" position even existed. Does
it pay as well as village idiot? Are the qualifications more or less
restrictive? Do you have to have a degree to get certification or is
there some kind of testing process? Which pays more VI or VM?

Why, yes! You have to have an IQ above room temperature! Sorry, you'll
have to seek alternate employment. Let's see, try this, McD: "Do you
want fries with that?"

You can save to HTML format from within AppleWorks' word processor; it
allows you to paste pictures in, too.

You might already have AppleWorks in your 'Applications' folder.

[grgaud] How come AppleWorks doesn't come with OS X? It was included
with OS 9, why not with OS X? Is there a place where we can get
AppleWorks for OS X?

As far as I know, it's still included with all of the
_consumer_ models. Not with the OS, but with the
_computers_. It's certainly included with the iMac, the
eMac and the iBook. See, for example, the middle right
of this screen: <a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://www.apple.com/imac/software.html" target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/imac/software.html</a>

But you won't find it listed with the powerbooks or
powermacs (towers).

Not exactly: AppleWorks is only included with 'consumer' Macintosh
models (eg.: iBooks, iMacs).

Bummer, I know. I learned this when I bought my dual G4 recently.

However, if you have AppleWorks for OS 9, it will work just fine in the
Classic environment within OS X.

[grgaud] Bummer is right. I liked AppleWorks. I have a copy with OS
9.0.4 which came with my iMac. Oh well, I can always use it in the
Classic environment and get the last update, free.

AppleWorks was never included with Mac OS 9. It was included with the
*computer*, if you bought an iMac or other consumer-oriented Mac. More
powerful Macs (including all the tower Macs) did not come with
AppleWorks.

 > Is there a place where we can get AppleWorks for OS X?

Sure. You can buy it from the Apple store at Apple.com, or from your
favorite Mac software retailer, such as Maczone.com, MacWarehouse.com,
MacMall.com, etc.
